Qimugen Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Kashi-Yarkand region (NW Tarim). The naming section is located near Qimugen in the foothills of the Kunlun Mountains, Xinjiang. Named by the Xinjiang Petroleum Administration in 1975.
Lithology and Thickness
Littoral–neritic, grayish green mudstone, gray sandstone and marlstone with thin-bedded coquina, with a ~5 m thick bed of gray limestone at the base and a 5–10 m thick gray and reddish gray, massive limestone at the top, which are of uniform distribution and may serve as markers for the stratigraphic division and correlation. The thickness is ~100 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It has a conformable contact with the underlying Paleocene Aertash Fm (Alatax Fm).
Upper contact
It has a conformable contact with the overlying Eocene Gaijitage Fm or Kalataer Fm (Karatal Fm).
Regional extent
This formation is widespread, extending from the national border eastward approximately to east of Hotan River, but it is absent in the Wulagen uplift in the foothills of the Tianshan Mountains.

Fossils
The formation contains abundant fossils of ostracods, Eocytheropteron kalickyi and Kinthe scelinis; and foraminifera, Globorotalia spp., Globigerina sp., Spiroplectammina sp., Nonionellina sp., etc.
